Full itinerary

Pick-Up From Inverness
I collect guests from hotels or guesthouses around the city. The vehicle is my Ford Tourneo Custom, known for comfort and luxury on long drives. The road north offers peaceful countryside and views of the firth. The day begins smoothly and sets a calm rhythm.

Worth knowing: Pick-ups from nearby hotels can be arranged.

Aleman’s tip: Bring a camera. Even the start of the route offers glorious views across the hills.

Black Rock Gorge
The first stop lies near Evanton. A short woodland path leads to the deep red sandstone gorge. A bridge crosses above the rushing water. Fans of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will recognise this iconic site. The air feels cool and still under the tall trees.

Worth knowing: The path may be damp after rain.

Aleman’s tip: I will wait at the car park while you explore. Listen for the echo of the river through the gorge.

Fyrish Monument
Next, we head towards the striking Fyrish Monument. It stands high above the Cromarty Firth. Built in the late 1700s, it helped local workers during tough times. The steady climb rewards you with a wide scenery of farmland, sea, and sky.

Worth knowing: The walk takes about one hour up and less on the way back.

Aleman’s tip: Bring a bottle of water and a warm layer. If the trail turns muddy, we can visit Dornoch beach and the cathedral for a calm stop.

Rogie Falls
We continue west to Rogie Falls, where forest trails lead to a bridge above the river. The view from the centre shows the water tumbling over dark rock. In late summer and autumn, salmon leap through the spray. The forest fills with the scent of pine and a soft mist.

Worth knowing: The walk to the bridge is suitable for all ages.

Aleman’s tip: Pause for photos. The landscape changes with every step.

Lunch at Cromarty
By midday, we reach the harbour village of Cromarty. Narrow lanes, old cottages, and a quiet pier set the scene. Lunch at Sutor Creek Cafe is a highlight. The menu includes local seafood, wood-fired pizza, and home-baked desserts. You can watch boats drift across the firth as you eat.

Worth knowing: The cafe can be busy at lunchtime.

Aleman’s tip: If the Cromarty walk becomes too wet, we can explore Chanonry Point longer or visit Glenmorangie Distillery for a warm indoor stop.

Chanonry Point
The final stop is Chanonry Point on the Black Isle. It is one of the best and most popular destinations in Scotland for seeing bottlenose dolphins. They swim close to shore at high tide. Even if they stay out of sight, the sea air feels refreshing and peaceful.

Worth knowing: Sightings depend on tide and season.

Aleman’s tip: Bring binoculars if you have them. If it rains, we can visit a nearby sheltered spot before returning.

The Journey Home
With memories made at Chanonry Point, we travel back towards Inverness. The evening light often colours the water and hills. I like to stop once more for photos if time allows. After a full day outdoors, the ride home feels quiet and complete. This Inverness Big Adventure Private Tour feels relaxed and varied.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are a few common questions travellers often ask before their Highland tour. If you cannot find what you are looking for, feel free to call or message Aleman. I am always happy to help plan your day.

What time does the tour start, and where do we meet?

We start at 8:00 am in the morning and pick up guests from their accommodation in Inverness. If you prefer a later start, that can be arranged. Still unsure? Give Aleman a call. I am always happy to chat.

How much walking is there on this tour?

Most walks are short and steady. The climb to Fyrish Monument takes longer, but you can rest or enjoy the view from below. I plan each stop so everyone feels comfortable and enjoys the day.

What should I bring for the day on this private tour from Inverness?

Pack waterproof boots and a jacket. Bring warm layers, a bottle of water, and light snacks for before lunch. Bring a camera or phone for photos of the dolphins and views. Binoculars are great for wildlife. The Gear & Snack Checklist keeps you ready for any weather.

Can we see dolphins or wildlife during the tour?

Yes. Dolphins often appear at Chanonry Point. In summer, salmon jump at Rogie Falls. You may also see birds or deer along the way. I time the stops to give the best chance to spot them.

What happens if it rains or the paths become muddy?

That is no problem. If the Cromarty walk is too wet, we can visit Glenmorangie Distillery or spend more time at Chanonry Point. If Fyrish is muddy, we can stop at Dornoch beach and the cathedral. The plan is always flexible.

Where do we stop for lunch?

We stop in Cromarty at Sutor Creek Cafe, known for local seafood and pizza. The harbour view adds to the charm. You can also bring your own snack if you prefer a lighter break outdoors.

What makes this Inverness private tour special?

This tour feels unique and personal. It combines forests, sea views, and friendly villages with a calm pace. You travel with a local driver and knowledgeable guide who knows every hidden turn. Like all my Inverness private tours. It reflects the spirit of the Highlands. If you are still wondering, give Aleman a call. I am happy to chat!
