Setting Off from Inverness

I will collect you from your hotel, guesthouse, or meeting point in Inverness. Once you settle into the Ford Tourneo Custom, we begin our day together. The road north runs past farmland and woodland before opening toward the sea. This marks the start of your journey from Inverness to the North Tour.

Aleman’s tip: Keep your eyes on the water as we cross the bridge. Dolphins sometimes appear when the tide is right.

Million Dollar View

Our first stop is a viewpoint that truly deserves its name. From here, you can see rolling green hills, the Dornoch Firth, and faraway mountain lines.
It's a calm and beautiful start that shows why this stop is so loved.
Important Notes SVG

Worth knowing: The view changes every few minutes as the light moves across the land and water.

Aleman Icon

Aleman’s tip: Take a short walk to the edge for the best photo. It always feels like the Highlands are saying hello.

Dornoch Firth Viewpoint

We pause at the Dornoch Firth Viewpoint for a calm and open view across the water. The firth stretches far into the distance, with soft hills rising on both sides. It is a gentle stop with space to breathe and take in the vast northern landscape.
Important Notes SVG

Worth knowing: The water changes colour throughout the day. Morning light is clear and calm, while late afternoon adds warm tones across the firth.

Aleman Icon

Aleman’s tip: Step out for a moment and look toward the far shore. The still water often creates a mirror-like effect on a quiet day.

Falls of Shin

We travel through forested slopes to reach the Falls of Shin, a place full of life and sound.
The water rushes through the rocks. Between May and September, you might see salmon leaping upstream. It is a small miracle that never loses its charm and is one of the many highlights of the Inverness to the North Tour.
Important Notes SVG

Worth knowing: The path to the viewing area is short and easy for all visitors.

Aleman Icon

Aleman’s tip: The salmon appear when you least expect them. Wait quietly for a few minutes, and you may see one break the surface.

Dunrobin Castle

Standing above the sea, Dunrobin Castle looks as though it were drawn from a storybook.
The castle dates back to the fourteenth century and is still privately owned.
Its rooms are filled with history. The formal gardens stretch all the way down to the shore.
It is a place where you can sense the past while enjoying the calm of the present.
Important Notes SVG

Worth knowing: You can visit inside or enjoy the gardens and views from the outside.

Aleman Icon

Aleman’s tip: The gardens are a favourite stop for me. They feel timeless and peaceful. The sea breeze is wonderful here.

Ticket Icon

Important: Interior tickets must be booked in advance.

Seals at Loch Fleet

We can extend the day with a peaceful stop at Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve. The coastline here feels open and calm. The sandbanks sit close to shore, and seals often rest on them year-round. You may see them lift their heads or shift along the sand. It is a gentle moment that many guests enjoy.
Important Notes SVG

Worth knowing: The seals are wild. They rest on the sandbanks when the tide is low. You can view them from a safe distance without any rush.

Aleman Icon

Aleman’s tip: Bring a camera. Soft afternoon light creates clear reflections on the water and shows the seals at their best.

Glenmorangie Distillery

Next, we visit Glenmorangie Distillery. It is one of the most respected whisky distilleries in Scotland. Since 1843, it has been known for light, golden single malts. The Inverness to Glenmorangie Distillery route offers some of the most lovely coastal scenery. You can book your distillery visit directly for 2 pm, which fits perfectly within our day. While you enjoy your tour, I will wait nearby until you are ready to continue.
Important Notes SVG

Worth knowing: A distillery guide will walk you through the whisky-making process and finish with a tasting of their famous spirits.

Aleman Icon

Aleman’s tip: Enjoy every sip slowly. The whisky tastes even better when you have no need to rush.

Important: Please book early as spaces fill quickly.

The Royal Burgh of Dornoch

Our last stop is Dornoch, a quiet town filled with charm and warmth. You can explore the 20th-century cathedral, wander through its small shops, or walk to the beach where the sea meets the sky. It is the perfect spot for a relaxed lunch before heading back.
Important Notes SVG

Worth knowing: Everything in Dornoch is close together, so you can see a lot without feeling hurried.

Aleman Icon

Aleman’s tip: The local cafes are excellent. I often recommend one that serves homemade soup and freshly baked bread.
